Building Hybrid Radio in Android Automotive OS
Since 2019, Radioplayer has been working on a project to build a hybrid reference radio application in Google’s Android Automotive Operating System. We’ve seen that the standard broadcast radio user interface in Android Automotive is currently poor, a list of frequencies, no station names, no station logos, no now-playing information, and not hybrid.
So at the same time as working on building and demonstrating hybrid radio capability in Android Automotive we’ve also been learning about the Operating System so we can make recommendations to Google, car manufacturers and industry partners about how it should be improved to help ensure hybrid radio capability is baked into the Android Automotive core source code and available to everyone as standard.
Radioplayer released a report in June this year with our recommendations for DAB and Hybrid Radio which can be downloaded below.
